Abstract:
The “Edge” is exploding all around us! According to Gartner, the global market for edge computing is expected to grow to $6.7 billion by 2022, up from about $1.5 billion in 2017. This unbridled growth is presenting significant opportunities, and challenges, for enterprises and service providers.

Digital Transformation is top-of-mind with most CxOs.  Either they rapidly innovate to take advantage of the massive edge computing opportunity, or they quickly get left behind.  But, the challenge of innovation lies not only in the technology, but also in the transformation of existing IT tools, processes, resources and organizations.

The scope, scale and complexity of edge computing bring new levels of challenges to digital transformation. While edge computing devices are becoming more and more powerful, they still lack all the resources they will need to deliver real-time OODA (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act) applications for autonomous vehicles, Industrial IoT, smart buildings, video surveillance/processing, immersive experiences and augmented reality for retail to name a few.  On top of that, the massive amounts of data edge computing will produce has to be dealt with in terms of analytics, learning, security and data sovereignty.

The question now becomes not “how do I scale up?”, but rather “how do I scale out and scale across to get the right resources, in the right amount, at the right place, at the right time?” A new breed of Edge clouds is rapidly emerging to enable digital transformation to reach beyond traditional public and hybrid clouds. In this session, CPLANE.ai will discuss their insights and perspectives into the rapidly growing edge cloud market, including several industry use cases.  They will also share some of the challenges of delivering resources in a hyper-distributed cloud model while maintaining an integrated end-to-end service continuum. Then they will discuss how they are using their novel approach to intelligent closed-loop orchestration and automation to help customers move from traditional “clouds for humans” to “clouds for machines” for edge computing. NFIC 2017 : FinTech – Hedging the Financial Storm!

On behalf of the organizing committee, it’s our great honor to officially welcome you all to the 19th New Frontiers in Computing Conference on “FinTech: Hedging the Financial Storm!”

As in the past, this conference includes a variety of high-tech and emerging topics. Global trend in social, political and economic turmoil in recent past and push towards paperless digital economy has challenged financial services industry to hedge against the financial disruptions. This exciting event provides a unique opportunity for Technology Business, Startups and Financial Corporate decision makers to network with Global FinTech leaders. Participants will learn the value chain disruptions from financial technology (FinTech) and how it will impact their strategy and investments in financial & technology industry. The social, political and disruptive economic storm starting Brexit, EU breakup, Indian Modinomics, China’s role to US Trumpnomics can be contained if FinTech is used as an hedge through proper understanding and that is what the keynote and panels will address.

FinTech is the use of technology to disrupt, revolutionize, and evolve the financial industry. It runs a very wide range from mobile payment apps to high-frequency trading. It involves risk-management through FinTech apps, big data, bitcoin, banking consolidation, remittances, P2P, insurance, Federal Reserve policies, IMF and other geopolitical partners in driving global commerce. Many of these developments either rely on, align with, or serve the mobile and Financial Technology industry. The National Trade wars and Market Regulations with Controls, Tax rationalization, outsourcing, transfer pricing, border taxes, banking consolidation, and plethora of technologies innovation from Cloud, Mobile Apps. will accelerate the trend fueling waves of storm.

Abstract:

Digital world has produced efficiencies, new innovative products, and close customer relationships globally by the effective use of mobile, IoT (Internet of Things), social media, analytics and cloud technology to generate models for better decisions. Blockchain is recently introduced and revolutionizing the digital world bringing a new perspective to security, resiliency and efficiency of systems. While initially popularized by Bitcoin, Blockchain is much more than a foundation for crypto currency It offers a secure way to exchange any kind of good, service, or transaction. Industrial growth increasingly depends on trusted partnerships; but increasing regulation, cybercrime and fraud are inhibiting expansion. To address these challenges, Blockchain will enable more agile value chains, faster product innovations, closer customer relationships, and quicker integration with the IoT and cloud technology. Further Blockchain provides a lower cost of trade with a trusted contract monitored without intervention from third parties who may not add direct value. It facilitates smart contracts, engagements, and agreements with inherent, robust cyber security features. This paper is an effort to break the ground for presenting and demonstrating the use of Blockchain technology in multiple industrial applications. A healthcare industry application, Healthchain, is formalized and developed on the foundation of Blockchain. The concepts are transferable to a wide range of industries as finance, government and manufacturing where security, scalability and efficiency must meet.
