Speaker: Burak Yenier, Co-founder and CEO at TheUberCloud
Time: 6:30 PM (PT) Networking/Refreshments, 7:00 PM Presentation
Successful companies use computing power (sometimes even High Performance Computing, HPC) to build better products, faster, cheaper. They often need to chose between workstations, clusters, and cloud computing resources. This talk will address the benefits and challenges which each of these approaches bring. As a part of his talk, Burak will demonstrate how UberCloud uses Docker containers to move engineering applications to Cloud providers such as Microsoft Azure.
Since 2012, UberCloud has conducted over 150 experiments to identify the benefits and define the best practices for using the Cloud for High Performance Computing. These UberCloud Experiments demonstrated that, in particular, small and medium-sized enterprises can strongly benefit from HPC in the Cloud (or HPC as a Service). The major advantages of having access to additional remote compute resources were proven to be the agility gained by speeding up product design cycles through shorter simulation run times; the superior quality achieved by simulating more sophisticated geometries or physics; and the discovery of the best product design by running many more iterations.
During the presentation various engineering applications such as ANSYS CFX, CD-adapco Star-CCM+ and Scilab will be launched on Cloud servers. The benefits of having access to on-demand Cloud computing power together with powerful simulation applications will be discussed.
Burak Yenier is the Co-founder and CEO of UberCloud. He is an expert in the development and management of large-scale, high availability systems, and the Cloud delivery model. He has been working on Software as a Service since early 2000 and held management positions in software development and operations in several companies. In his most recent role as the Vice President of Operations Burak managed the multi-site datacenter and digital payment operations of CashEdge (now part of Fiserv) a financial Software as a Service technology company located in Silicon Valley, where he built cloud infrastructure and operations for scale. At UberCloud Burak heads the development of UberCloud Containers and the operations of the company. Burak holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering.
